Intellectual Property

About

Considered as a competitive advantage of businesses–Intellectual Property is one of the key strategies that businesses can employ to advance their innovative capacities because it sets them apart from competitors and builds their brand identity. In 2022, an estimated 48,000 IP applications were recorded and the contribution of IP-related industries including copyright industries contributed largely to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.

The committee leads in the promotion of the use of intellectual property as a significant component of business development and innovation. Among the committee’s initiatives is the annual celebration of the Alfredo M. Yao Intellectual Property (AMY-IP) Awards which recognizes inventors, entrepreneurs, and students who contribute to the development of innovative and creative products and services that make doing business productive, economical, and sustainable.
